Cotendo SSL is a secured high performance delivery option for both Cotendo Content Delivery and Cotendo Dynamic Site Acceleration. Cotendo SSL allows any content provider to present any web-delivered content to end users with a secured HTTPS interface, via Cotendo's global content delivery network.
Full Range of SSL Certificate Support
Cotendo SSL allows a content provider a wide range of options in configuring an optimal secure delivery channel for all web-delivered content. Cotendo accepts SSL certificates acquired from most certificate authorities, self-signed certificates generated by the customer, as well as offering a Cotendo shared-certificate for many basic needs. Basic certificates provide a baseline level of trust with the end-user that content is not being passed 'in the clear' from the Cotendo CDN and the content provider. Premium certificates issued by well known organizations provide enhanced safety and peace-of-mind to end users with security processes not only secure the delivery channel, but also create proof of organization identity.
Easy and Flexible Deployment
Deployment of SSL with Cotendo is easy. To enable SSL support, you simply upload your certificate's public key into Cotendo's Content Delivery Manager web administrator interface. You then just need to decide what portions of your web traffic will require SSL delivery. Flexible options include specifying secure delivery via SSL from origin server to the Cotendo CDN, the normal case of SSL from CDN to end-user, or a complete secure path from origin through CDN to end user. Content definitions with the Cotendo Views function allow you to easily specify secured traffic from origin to CDN by domain, directory, and/or content type. Cotendo also simplifies cache management by not creating duplicate cache objects for common objects such as images or logos that may be used for both normal as well as secured traffic. This flexibility in deployment is designed to allow precise protection of needed content, without burdening your origin or the CDN with the enhanced resources needed for protected delivery of content that is OK to be delivered normally. You may also set up additional different certificate for any of these options, as well as for additional backup or geographically diverse origin servers.
Secured Systems
Cotendo follows best practices in software design and service process to assure the security of the content, information, and transactions that flow through the Cotendo CDN. External security audits are standard procedure for transactional security. The Cotendo CDN Server is designed with features that segment content access between customers, as well as protect your secure information. This includes features like never storing your private key to CDN disk, when it is offered as part of the secure transaction. That information is only stored in secured RAM on server machines, and not available to inspection from disk in the event of any physical or network intrusion attempt.

Cotendo SSL simplifies security with easy integration - no changes to your web architecture are required to add SSL. Further, Cotendo simplifies whole-site delivery, by offering an integrated platform that offers SSL for both cacheable static content, and non-cacheable dynamic content, through the same content delivery platform, and that is controlled though a common Cotendo application management interface.
